There isn’t anyone
who doesn’t know Sattar Khan who is interested in Iran a
little and his heroism for the cause of this country… It is
unnecessary to tell that there is a place in the heart of
each person for Sattar Khan, whose heart is beating for
Southern Azerbaijan. This grand hero, who was born in the
Montenegro region of South Azerbaijan on 1866, demanded the
rights of people against the government in the days of
pressure and oppression in the final period of the Kingdom
of Qajar. Sattar Khan fought
against the dictate regime of Mohammad Ali Shah, power,
betrayal and oppression triangle of Russians and British
especially with the help of Bagir Khan and other mujahedeen,
and protected Tabriz from the government for a year and
finally headed for Tehran and bought this city to heels and
played a major role in the establishment of the
constitutional monarchy. When I read or recalled those
historical facts I was upset about the murder of Yaphrem
Khan, the old supporter of Sattar Khan, by the Armenians and
the injury of Sattar Khan from his leg as a result of a
betrayal in the garden of Atabek because Sattar Khan never
recovered from the injury in his leg and finally passed away
on November, 1914…
The residence of
Sattar Khan in Tabriz, which is one of the popular issues
recently, was one of the places where fighters were
organized against the imperialist forces and especially the
Russians in the period of the Constitutional Monarchy. This
mansion full of memories, some part of which was sold by the
aunt of Sattar Kahn, stood alone after the departure of
Sattar Khan and Bagher Khan to Tabriz. During the second
move of the Russians following the defeat of the Movement of
the Constitutional Monarchy, the residence of Sattar Khan or
to put it correctly ‘the headquarters of the stipulated
revolutionists’ was bombarded by the Russian invaders who
are supposedly our ally nowadays. The buyer of this
historical mansion wanted to build a new building there
recently by demolishing the remaining part agreeing with the
officials for public works and construction but this time
came across against the reaction of the Southern Azerbaijani
people.
The Chairman of the
Cultural Heritage Institution of the City of Eastern
Azerbaijan Karim Khani made a statement as follows: “This
mansion was sold by the inheritors of Sattar Khan and the
buyer will build a new building by demolishing the old one”
as a response to the rightful reaction of the Southern
Azerbaijanis and emphasized that the Cultural Inheritance
Institution played no role of any kind in these
developments.
The statements made
by the former actress Ziba Naderi Moghaddam, who has been
living in Switzerland for three years and claiming to be one
of the grandchildren of Sattar Khan, added a new dimension
to the discussion. Ziba Maderi Moghaddam stated as follows:
“Southern Azerbaijanis are against the ceremonies held in
the commemoration of my grandfather (Sattar Khan) which are
held in front of his grave every year”. Her statement
regarding the application of a legal procedure in case of
the repetition of this incident changed the agenda. Like
other Southern Azerbaijani brothers it is difficult for me
to understand this weird reaction of Ziba Naderi. I would
like to say that this great hero, who changed the fate of
the Iranian and especially Southern Azerbaijani people,
became a symbol who belongs to their own people. Everyone
should know that Sattar Khan is a hero who is loyal to the
great Azerbaijani family and he is not only the ancestor of
Ziba Naderi but all of us! Those who see him from a correct
point of view know that Sattar Khan is a symbol for those
who revolt for the cause of freedom and independence in the
whole world. I think Ziba Naderi Moghadam Sattar Khan should
return to her country instead of trying to get famous by
talking nonsense. Instead of trying to get famous with these
statements she should fight against those who destroy our
cultural and other values in Iran. Instead of talking
against Southern Azerbaijanis she should deal with those who
demolish the mansion of her ancestor in the name of money
and she should make a move as soon as possible to save that
historical mansion from demolition! Ziba Naderi Moghadam
Sattar Khan can only be ‘a grandchild who is worthy of her
ancestor’ if she agrees to fulfill the above-mentioned
comments.
