THE SYMBOL OF THE FUTURE: “POOR TEACHERS”

Recently, a meeting was held in Tabriz in order to improve the education programs. Attended by the primary and secondary school principals who are employed in the Eastern Azerbaijani Province, this comprehensive meeting was dedicated to the handling of the education system, as well as the financial problems of the teachers.

It was emphasized during mentioned meeting, that “in the last two years, the salaries of the teachers were raised from 280 thousand Tumans (approximately 300 US Dollars) to 410 thousand Tumans (430 US Dollars), which is not enough in the current high cost living conditions, that an amendment in the legislation was required for a further rise in the salaries of the teachers, and that it was necessary to relieve the teachers who are the main elements in the education of the youngsters and the society”.

On the other hand, according to the available information, the Religious Leader’s Representative to the Eastern Azerbaijan, and the Tabriz Friday Imam, Ayatollah Mohsen Mujtahed Shabasteri, carried out an examination regarding the “library activities” in Tabriz in November 18. Shabasteri was reported to have said that “book prices were too high, youngsters were not able to buy enough books to read, the financial situations of the families were not well-off enough to purchase books for their children, libraries had to provide books through the capabilities of the government and attract the youngster to these places”. The mentioned person also stressed that the young people who did not have reading habits tended to harmful activities, and this was a negative signal for the future of the society, and the young generation after the Islamic Revolution inclined to engage in entertaining activities, and wanted this way of life to be stopped.

Conducted by the “teachers who are the guarantees of the future”, the protest demonstrations accompanied by the slogans in front of the Majles last March, such as “You, the Majles of Justice, Shame on you!”, “the Nation have never seen such a shameless Majles before!”, “Teachers are not sleeping and hate all discriminations!” are claimed to have been influential in addressing the financial difficulties. Following the demonstrations carried out in many centers of population, primarily Tehran, the detention of many teachers, who conveyed their rightful demands, lead to reaction among the populace.
