A NEW CASE OF LOGOPHOBIA:

“THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE NAME OF

THE KHAZAR SEA AGAIN!...”

Ramazan Ali Sadeghzadeh, who is an MP of the Islamic Consultancy Assembly, made a motion to the Presidency of the Assembly regarding changing the name of KHAZAR Sea into “Kaspian” on January 22, 2008.  It is claimed that the reason of this unexpected initiative is the idea that the name KHAZAR belongs to an ancient Turkish tribe and this name which has been used for centuries does a great damage to the Persians.

The Islamic Consultancy Assembly Research Center, which is charged by the Presidency of the Assembly on this motion, gave a ‘positive’ opinion on it and stated as follows: “From now on it is appropriate to use the name Deryaye Kaspian in the study books and maps prepared by the Ministry of National Education and from now on the new name of KHAZAR Sea will be used in the foreign embassies and consulates.”

The milieus who are supporting to change the name of KHAZAR Sea emphasize that the above-mentioned change must be made to avoid the problems in the future regarding the Persian Gulf and that the Arabs still insistently use the Arabic Gulf for the Persian Gulf.

The public said about the initiative, which made a great impact on the southern Azerbaijani public opinion, that the Iranian regime could not tolerate names and expressions that emphasize being a Turkish and that reminds the Turkish civilizations, which were founded in the Iranian territory before, that’s why they want to use the name Kaspian which emphasizes the Kaspi civilization who lived in the region before and who were a member of the Aryan race (Irani).

This initiative is called a new LOGOPHOBIA incident in the Southern Azerbaijani society. The Iranian government wanted to realize this initiative in the past by changing the name of KHAZAR Sea into “Mazenderan”.
